Residentcy Application Instructions


PGY-1 Applications

Please submit applications online using the ERAS and registration with the NRMP.  Application requirements for the ERAS online submission are listed below.

Application Requirements via ERAS:

  • Common Application Form
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School Transcript
  • MSPE/Dean's Letter
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
         A minimum of two should be from neurosurgeons
         You may submit a fourth letter if you wish
  • Photograph
  • USMLE transcripts (if applicable)
  • ECFMG Status Report (international medical graduates only)

Application Deadline:

The final deadline is November 1, 2008, but we will consider applications as they arrive so we recommend that you submit your application as early as possible.

Communication:

We are happy to talk to you by phone or correspond with you by mail as needed, but the preferred method for routine communication will be by e-mail (rfrench@neurosurgery.umsmed.edu). Therefore, please keep us updated regarding your e-mail address.

Interview Invitations:

Interview invitations will be offered via e-mail with follow-up printed documentation as needed. You will be invited to visit on one of the two pre-scheduled dates (see below). There will be slots for all applicants invited to interview. If you must cancel your interview, please notify us as soon as possible so we can reschedule (ambarnes@neurosurgery.umsmed.edu).

Residency Interview Dates:

            December 5, 2009

            January 18, 2010

International Medical Graduates:

International medical graduates must secure an ECFMG sponsored J-1 visa or a green card and must have a social security number before appying to the program. If you have any questions regarding visas, please contact the Graduate Medical Education office at 601-984-1113.
